I have the honour to acknowledge the re-

ceipt of your Despatch No. 287 of the 7th. ultimo, enclosing

a letter written to the Secretary to the Admiralty on the

same date.

2.

In accordance with your instructions the

pier to be erected by the Naval Authorities will be erected

free of charge, but it is my duty to point out to you that

this is a contribution from this Colony to the expenses of His Majesty's Navy in addition to the charge of 20% on the

gross revenues of the Colony as a Military Contribution.

The value of Colonial property already

made over to the Naval Authorities free of charge is one

Million Three Hundred and Forty-three Thousand Two Hundred

and Forty-eight Dollars.
